Lane’s Edge
39 Bourke St
Melbourne, 3000
(no website)
Decided to have lunch out just before my first exam, good way to relax and chill - just how I like to approach an exam. We were looking for places to eat around the Exhibition Building just to make sure we got back in time for the start.
We stumbled upon Lane’s Edge while walking along Bourke St, but it didn’t look too exciting from the front. By chance however, we walked along the alleyway next to the place (on our way to Little Collins St) and glanced at the outdoor seating of Lane’s Edge. After seeing it, we decided we had to eat here!
The outdoor seating area is decorated with an island/Tiki themed, with the bar looking like a tiki-hut. It had a great ambiance to it and with the Melbourne weather being absolutely gorgeous, it was the perfect environment.
For drinks, we were looking for something like a fresh fruit juice or smoothie, none of which they had sadly so we settled for the San Pellegrino sparkling waters - in Limonata and Chinotto.
For mains, we ordered:
- Thai Chicken/Vegetable Roti & Salad -the roti itself was really nice, though the filling lacked the punch of all the Thai flavours. I thought overall it was quite bland and the salad didn’t do much for it.
- Pasta Special - Chorizo & Chicken - I love any pasta with chorizo, it’s just meant to be - so this pasta was perfect for me in terms of what was in it. It was quite basic but that was fine for a casual lunch.
Overall, the actual place itself was much better than the food. I might come back on another sunny afternoon for a coffee, but probably won’t try the food again.
