Proud Mary on Urbanspoon

Firstly, sorry for the lack of postings - just been absolutely flat out with both my jobs with the whole Christmas period. Things are slowing down now though! :)

Went to Proud Mary’s with a friend for a catch-up a few days before Christmas. Lucky the place wasn’t too packed and just had to wait about 5 minutes for seats - in which time we looked through the menu. Proud Mary’s is tucked away just off Smith St so it’s quite easy to get to, either take the 86 tram from Bourke St or it’s just a short 15/20 minute walk from Parliament Station.

Though we went for lunch, we opted to go with their all-day Breakfast Menu as it seemed more appealing to us. We started off with an ice mocha/coffee, which we thought were great - not too sweet like many other places. For mains, we got:

  • Potato Hash - grilled bacon, spinach, a poached egg, bagna cauda($16.50) - Overall, I really enjoyed this - the potato hash was delicious and not too heavy. The potato had been shredded into little strands before being compacted together though the texture wasn’t compromised. I wasn’t too sure about the bagna cauda (a traditional Italian sauce consisting of anchovies, garlic and cream) as the anchovy flavour was too great for someone who wasn’t a fan of it.
  • Ricotta Hotcakes - caramalised peaches, maple syrup, whipped marscapone, pistachios ($16.50) - Though it was a different rendition to the one written on the menu, they were still great - the hotcakes were quite light, and the peaches melded really well with the maple syrup. They were insanely filling though, and between the two of us we could only finish two of the three hotcakes.

I would definitely be up for going back and trying out more of the menu. I really enjoyed my visit and since it’s quite easy to get to, wouldn’t mind a quick breakfast or lunch here when uni starts up again!
