Pok Pok on Urbanspoon

Went here awhile ago for a catch-up with two good friends after I was forced into picking a place to eat. I wanted to try something new, with a pretty decent price range, so after looking around Urbanspoon for awhile, I stumbled upon Pok Pok.

It’s located really conveniently (for those around the Melbourne CBD a lot), with just a short tram ride to the Docklands area via a tram (48, 70 86) or a 5/10 minute walk from Southern Cross Station. It’s in the very quiet side of Docklands, away from the shops, but has its own nice relaxed vibe.

We ordered three mains to share between us, whilst I also picked up a Thai Ice Milk Tea (I love authentic Asian milk teas, especially HK-style tea & coffee mix) and this didn’t disappoint! It was a touch on the sweet side, but had all the right flavours in it.

The dishes we ordered were (in order of pictures):

  • Spicy Drunken Noodles ‘Pad Kee Mao’ with beef: My favourite (but only just)! The noodles had the right hit of chilli that wasn’t too over-powering, whilst the beef was just perfectly succulent and not dry or tough. Overall, the whole combination of everything was just brilliant.
  • Spicy Stir Fried Rockling with “Pad Cha” Chilli - Miff’s favourite (though she didn’t know it was fish until the end piece..)! The rockling had a sticky finish to it, and soaked in all the flavours that were present throughout the vegetables that accompanied it.
  • Massaman Lamb Curry with Crisp Roti Bread - HeeYo’s favourite! I wasn’t sure what to expect but our waiter mentioned it was one of their most popular. The flavours absolutely blew me away! I wish they’d given us more sauce to mop up the roti with (the roti was great too!); whilst the meat just fell off the bone, as you can already tell from the picture. Definitely did not disappoint!

Each of us had different favourites, a clear sign that this restaurant is just amazing! Can’t wait to come try more of their menu, and have a few of the old ones, during uni breaks now! Would definitely recommend this place for people to try some good authentic Thai flavours!
